Save and Resume Your Rant Layout

Keep your editable layout with browser autosave, restore a draft after refreshing, and download a JSON backup with your local images.

Updated

Let the browser finish saving

The Maker keeps one current draft in this browser. Add a layer or change your design, then wait for Saved in this browser near the top of the workspace. Refreshing the same Maker page restores that draft, including its text, layer positions, colors and locally added character images.

On a phone, tap the arrow beside the Maker title to open project options. On desktop, use the save controls in the editor. Save in this browser writes a draft immediately; Load browser draft reopens the saved version.

Opening a different Starter or Remix link starts that chosen design. This prevents an unrelated draft from replacing the template you just picked. Once it finishes loading and autosaving, the new design becomes the current browser draft. Download a separate copy first if you want to keep several projects.

Move editable work with a JSON backup

  1. Open project options on mobile, or the design save controls on desktop.
  2. Choose Download design JSON. Keep the downloaded file somewhere you can find it again.
  3. Open the Maker in the destination browser and choose Import design JSON.
  4. Select your file, inspect the layers, and wait for the browser save status before continuing.

A JSON backup preserves separate layers and includes local image pixels. A PNG is the finished combined image: it is useful in a video editor, but importing that PNG cannot restore the original text and decoration layers. Keep both when you need a finished image and an editable backup.

Browser autosave is local to that browser profile and website address. It does not sync your project between a phone and a computer. Clearing site data, using a private browsing session or moving to another browser can remove or separate that draft. The downloaded JSON is the portable copy.

Understand which images travel with the draft

Local uploads and Character cutouts: the draft and downloaded JSON include these images. You do not need to cut out the character again after a successful save.

My uploads: these are account assets. Designs remember their private references rather than embedding the account images in a portable file. Sign in to the same account to reopen them. An image deleted from My uploads may need replacing in an older draft.

Shared layouts: choosing Save & Share explicitly saves a new layout link and the images needed for it. Publishing to Gallery is a separate action that makes a layout public and available for download and Remix. Browser autosave does not publish your work.

When a draft will not reopen

The status says it could not save

Keep the canvas open. Download a JSON backup or PNG before clearing browser data. Storage can be unavailable or full; a failed write keeps the previous complete draft, so the latest changes may only remain on the current canvas. You can retry Save in this browser after resolving the storage issue.

An older design has missing images

Some older files saved only image references without the original local pixels. Re-add those images or remove the missing layers. For an older Gallery Remix, the Maker uses the complete preview when available and labels it as a combined image. You can decorate on top, but cannot separate its original elements.

A different project appears

Check the browser, profile and website address, and reopen your downloaded JSON if necessary. Avoid editing the same browser draft in two tabs at once: the latest saved tab becomes the current draft.
